About

CABAL is a 20-something IT worker who lives on the internet, where he wastes his free time with things like videogames, movies, and comics. He likes to think of himself as creative, but none of his projects make it far, many never got past concept. This corner of the web is where he displays these unfinished works and speaks his mind about whatever topic happens to be in there at the time.

Cabal's Game of the Year Awards

Thursday 07 January 2010 at 2:58 pm Originally I was going to divide this into a couple of posts and do it across multiple days.. last week, but I never found the time. 2009 was an interesting year, a lot of big name games got pushed back to first quarter 2010. So much so that it a times seemed like nothing would be left to come out in '09, of course there were still a large number of releases. So much so, that I still haven't played some major releases like Assassin's Creed 2. So without further delay, here are my game of the year awards. (more)

Friday 06 November 2009 at 11:22 am Dedicated servers are part of what makes PC gaming multiplayer great, but that seems to be changing. For those who are unfamiliar with dedicated servers, they are server that host PC games. This is different from Xbox Live and listen servers in that no one is actually playing on the same computer that is hosting. This setup solves many of the issues that plague Xbox Live games, for example, there is no host advantage and there is no 5 second delays in the game because the person who was selected to be the host quit the match. To PC gamers though, these servers became the focus point of communities. A community could run its own server and play how it wanted to, and clans could easily run modified rules or block non-clan members from their matches. Unfortunately it seems that developers no longer care about how much these servers bring to the community surrounding multiplayer PC games. It started when it was announced that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 would not support dedicated servers despite all the previous games doing so. And to say that the PC community took this poorly would be an understatement. (more)

Poo-tee-weet

Friday 04 September 2009 at 10:01 am Well, I've started using twitter not too long ago. Normally, I'm not much for social networking, but I've actually grown to like Twitter quite a bit. Funny part is that I started using it to see how it works so I could use it for promotion for Pressure Blind, but I have yet to actually do anything with their account.

In other news, I've finally updated the Dark Light page. There is a new introduction, but other than that it's just the same portion of the story with a few tweaks; mostly with the grammar. (more)
